Alex's practice based PhD project investigates the journey of illumination from the source of light through to how and why the audience may engage with the moving image as parameters of its capture and display progress. The study will result in a series of moving image works that exploit digital and photochemical processes consecutively, comparatively and explore operations that are only possible through the use of both technologies. Alex is primarily interested in how we orchestrate the light within and of moving images, how this is progressing with emerging capture technology and how the proliferation of displays will impact ways in which this use is perceived.
