DIGITAL AESTHETICS 4 - DA4 - 2016
The Digital Aesthetic Project (2001 – 2012) was a series of exhibitions, conferences and websites organised by the Harris Museum & Art Gallery and Prof Chris Meigh-Andrews at the Electronic and the Digital Art Unit (EDAU), University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).
The first Digital Aesthetic took place in 2001, was initiated by Chris Meigh-Andrews and curated by James Green and Lindsay Taylor at the Harris, and Prof Meigh-Andrews at UCLan.
The Second Event Digital Aesthetics 2 2007, took place in 2007 and was curated by Lindsay Taylor and Richard Smith at the Harris and Chris Meigh-Andrews with assistance from Aneta Krzmein at UCLan.
The third event, Digital Aesthetic 3 2012, was curated by Lindsay Taylor and Chris Meigh-Andrews.
Each of the three previous projects included a multi-venue exhibition showing work by artists working in digital media – from international renowned pioneers such as Steina and Woody Vasulka (above), Takahiko Iimura, Peter Campus, Mary Lucier, Gary Hill and Robert Cahen through to emerging regional artists such as Simon Blackmore and Pat Flynn. Work by both Chris Meigh Andrews and Terry Flaxton has been displayed in these exhibitions.
The accompanying symposia have also been international in scope, with world experts such as Prof Jane Prophet, Lori Zippay, Prof Malcolm le Grice, Prof Sean Cubitt, Dr. Charlie Gere, Dr Beryl Graham and Dr. Sarah Cook presenting.
We are currently planning Digital Aesthetic 4, to be held in Bristol during 2016 in collaboration with a number of venues in the city. There will be a parallel conference mounted on training in electronic and digital art.
