Humberto Perez-Blanco joined UWE in 2003 and since then has taught in a number of different modules. His general area of interest and research is the relation between film and politics with a particular interest in Latin American cinema and on Documentary film. Since its inception he has been a member of the organising collective of the Bristol Radical Film Festival and he is curator of the series of screenings "Reel World" that takes place during term time at UWE.
He is finishing his PhD thesis entitled "The Politics of Contemporary Argentine Cinema (1996 - 2006) and studies the different types of filmmaking practices in the country and argues that each one represents a different conception and representation of the nation and articulates itself differently in an increasing globalised film industry. He is also interested in examining contemporary video-activism in Europe and producing a comparative study with similar practices in Latin America that argues that comparable distinctions can be tracked back to the political cinema produced in the sixties.
