In this Video Nic Hatch and Luke Goddard from Ncam present a new and enhanced VR technology at NAB2016 in a live demo at the Ncam booth.
Here they demonstrate - integration of games engine technology to get photorealistic results - real time depth keying and compositing It can now be argued that we're headlong toward actually making 'the holodeck' from star trek fame. This is a place where the audience member enters and worlds, feelings, sights, sound and touch are conjoured up for them to experience in both fictional and documentary forms… So what is just around the corner is the recreation of environments with any augmented object generated by computer graphics - or any environment with actors or ourselves placed within for entertainments acted out for us - or for us to take part within. In fact a question might be why go to a cinema for a group experience, when it is now possible that the world the story takes place and the environment that the story takes place in can now be tailored for one or two people, or small groups (bearing in mind that a certain number surpasses the idea of individual and that too many together make one person feel insignificant). So we now approach the need to study the psychology of mammals/humans in terms of experience and also the psyho/physical parameters of the human sensory system to see how close we can approach the ideal that actual living experience in the world offers. What might be the point of creating an experience of the world that the world itself offers? The question might be asked for people traditionally engaged in the creation of moving image entertainment: what will a cinematographer become and what skills should they have in the light of what is coming? |
