ROBERT GARY TERRY
Robert Scroll down and there's a French translation

I offer this to start a conversation

We’ve proposed a Collaboration, within which it might be argued we need a Theme. But that may come if we enter a Process. Or simply offer up works that in some way cohere

In all of this there’s interpretation – not only of the theme, but interpretation of all that’s said – which will be interpreted in a particular way from individual references and the context produced.

I believe we need a starting point to begin and I had originally brought up White Man – which I'd meant ontologically. Meaning: we all come into the world as conscious sentients: In this local sphere I am not a kangaroo, nor an amoeba, nor a black woman – so I meant that we try debate the ontology of not only being here – but within a particular context. This to me is profound. There is the fact of being here at all – but also of being in a particular condition. I am not pushing this - just explaining myself (which I'm sure is not necessary)

Also, the nuanced differences between sentience and consciousness needs articulation – but not now.

Then I brought up the idea of SUBVERSION

I spoke with Robert this morning and he asked me to summarise our discussion as he has limited English (and my French is worse). However: he asked that he collaborates to make the work because his studio is always with others in technical spaces. It is interesting on an art-making level that Robert’s studio is his mind and there’s somehow a necessary gap between the conception and the making. It must be a choice.

I've worked with Robert technically before and am happy to do so again as we're only several hundred miles away from eachother - but there's also the possibility of coming to the US to work (see the last sentence)

We talked about how Subversion is more a response than a theme. For instance how does one begin in relation to others, being subversive? That could be just being Contrary and a false position to ‘make something happen’…

When I create I do both together and spend much time trying to silence my linguistic mind. I begin with images that I respond to - plus and minus – and then I manipulate them such that they do not resemble the original – but become something else.

For me creativity happens in the mid-brain when awake and the mid and back brain during sleep… When I write words I exist in the frontal lobes….       If I draw back I then go into silence and becoming….   Which is sustaining - Until I return.

So our champion Rudolph is under siege from his colleagues and has to be careful, but we must inspire him to allow us to do this work for SF MOMA – so we have to offer him a possibility of increase that is he is then capable of arguing for.

One last thought: I know this is very early - do we require a producer? Someone who might enable money? I am roughly in a position to do what I like, when I like, within limitations - as I trust we all are - but sometimes money has an energy…
